KNIT-A-GOGO ORIGINAL PATTERNS

KNIT-A-GOGO GROUPS, KNITALONGS ETC

Knit-a-Gogo Knitalong
The third Thursday of every month is Knit-a-gogo Knitalong Night, starting at 6 p.m. and lasting until 9 or 10 p.m.  We will meet at Buzz Bakery on Slater's Lane in North Old Town Alexandria. This is a completely free  community event open to any Knit-a-gogo student, past, present or future. While there is often a theme for each month, you can bring whatever project you want and work on anything (or nothing at all!)  It’s a great way to meet other fabulous knitters while sipping some wine or a latte and eating some fab Buzz cupcakes. There is ample parking behind the shop and on the street.

Join the Knit-a-Gogo Ravelry group and meet other students, check out their completed projects and chat about upcoming classes and events.

SOURCES OF GREAT PATTERNS

Y2Knit is Knit-a-Gogo's source of excellent patterns designed specifically for education. Patterns are available for purchase on their site and they also have a yarn shop in Funkstown, MD.

Probably one of my favorite sources for patterns! I feature many of their patterns in my classes.

Check out her pattern shop.

Knitting Pure and Simple
Simple and beautiful patterns.

Knit and Tonic
Check out her great original patterns.

Great blog with wonderful patterns.

KNITTING HELP AND COMMUNITY

Knitter Review
You will find forums, yarn and book reviews and much more on this site.

Ravelry is the Facebook for knitters, crocheters, designers and other fiber artists. You can keep track of your stash, patterns and library of books, as well as track your current and finished projects. Everything is user driven and the more you post, the more you contribute to the overall community. It's a great place to get inspiration from other knitters and to find yarn and patterns across the globe.

Can't remember how to SSK? Need to know how to do the cable cast on? This lady has free online videos of various knitting techniques.

Yarndex
This is an incredible database of yarn that allows you to search by yarn name, fiber and guage. Great tool to figure out what yarn would be a substitute for the one in your pattern.

Finally, an explanation for terms like "worsted" and "dk." Check out this great chart of all yarn weight standards.

OUR FAVORITE LOCAL SHOPS

Aylin's has been our LYS for over 30 years! On most visits, you will find the owner, Aylin, behind the register or stocking shelves and ready to help you out. This is a great place for beginner knitters to shop and receive expert guidance on their yarn purchases. Aylin's is located in Loehman's plaza, just inside the beltway on Route 50. It is above the 7-11, on the third floor. A Tangled Skein
This large shop in Hyattsville, MD is a great source for a variety of yarn fibers and price points. Rummage through piles of Debbie Bliss or shelves of Cascade. The owners are wonderful people who are very knowledgeable. There is ample parking across the street from the shop and ample places to park yourself once inside the store. The shop is HUGE!
Located on Washington Blvd. in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, this shop is accessible from the King Street Metro station. It has been under new management for a couple of years now and has some very exciting stock and community. Stop in and see Holly and Aimee and check out their selection of Neighborhood Fiber Company's yarns and the back room full of sock yarn.
This shop is located in Fairfax, VA and is dedicated to offering organic, natural and hypoallergenic fibers and yarns. The staff is amazingly welcoming and taking a peak into the back "community room" reveals weavers and spinners in action. They carry the entire Fiber Company line and have a range of spinning and weaving supplies (and will custom order whatever you are looking for)
